Sunshine Soul

Back in the day KC and the Sunshine Band was on top of the US Billboard 100 and R&B charts in the mid seventies, 1975 to be exact with such hits as: “Get Down Tonight” “I’m Your Boogie Man” and the smash hit “That’s The Way I Like It,” well, there is a new version to the pop favorite “That’s The Way I Like It.”

Varges Thomas has revised and displays his funk masters’ craftsmanship to this pop and R&B song. From the synthesizer keyboard sounds to the funky guitar rhythms’ along with percussions beats; this new groove will indeed get you up and moving to the dance floor. To take an old classic hit and make it your own is what creative artist manage to do. To get the pop and funk cranking all at the same time is masterful. For those of us with ears to hear and who can stay on beat with a dance, can sing along to this funky jam.

Classic songs are time-tested. The song “I heard it through the grapevine” by Gladys Knight and the Pips in 1967 to the version by Marvin Gaye in 1968; both of these artist enjoyed success with hit records for the same titled song with different melodies and arrangements. Gladys’ peaked at #1 and # 2 on both the Billboard’s Hot 100 and R&B charts. Marvin had the same results a year later in 1968. Then in 1981 Hamilton’s, Ohio own Roger Troutman came along and did his rendition of the same titled song displaying his artistic talents’ with his talk-box and the song hit #1 on Billboard’s R&B charts.

It is factual; artist who know how to arrange, produce and are creative with their own originality with music from the past; he or she could easily end up with a hit record. Only time will time whether Varges’ version of “That’s The Way I Like It” by KC and the Sunshine Band will be a hit.

For recording artist attempting to make a rendition of a song that was popular back in the day, make sure you add your own style and identity to the mix. This will show your fans and music lovers around the world that you have versatility and the creativeness to own the project; which will be a new sound for their listening pleasure. Even music critics won’t be able to say, you didn’t own it! Let the music play on.
