'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' Graphic Vampire Birth Scene

When I was recently visiting a friend, we decided to catch a matinee of the new Twilight movie.  I’m not a fan of the series, but she loved the books so off we went.

side effects of ativanThe movie was as expected… Jacob ripping off his shirt within the first few minutes of the movie, Bella and Edward staring pensively at one another, ridiculously long music montages, teen angst and so on.  What I wasn’t really expecting was the sex and gore.

I’ve seen the other films in the Twilight Saga, and while they weren’t my cup o’ tea, they were relatively benign.  This film is different.  The sexual tension between Bella and Edward is no longer hinted at, but rather it is realized on film.  And mind you, I’m no prude, but I couldn’t help but notice the average age of the people in the theater (my friend and I were significantly older than the average) and think to myself… do they really need to SEE this?

As the movie pressed on, we find Bella is pregnant with a little vampire baby.  A vampire baby that thirsts for blood.  In order to keep her baby sated, Bella must drink blood although she herself is not a vampire yet.  Watching her sip blood through a straw was gross, but nothing compared to what was coming up.

As one can imagine, giving birth to a human/vampire hybrid is no picnic.  Complications ensue and we are lead into the now infamous “Vampire Birth Scene”.  Let me tell you… it’s pretty graphic.  I’ve seen my share of horror films, but this scene was particularly disturbing.  Blood everywhere… flashing images on the screen… screaming… splatter… it was awful.

Whether it was due to the flashing of lights and colors on the screen, or the overwhelming nature of the scene itself, it is being reported that some people have been experiencing seizures while watching the vampire birth.  A Utah man told http://marionsphotographics.com.au/ that he blacked out, fell out of his seat and began convulsing on the floor during the scene.  His wife later told him that he was “shaking and mumbling different noises.”

Now, reports are coming in that this is not an isolated incident.  Others are coming forward claiming that they either experienced something similar, or witnessed such convulsions while watching Breaking Dawn.

Breaking Dawn distributor Summit Entertainment LLC has yet to publicly comment on the incidents.
