Shocking Videos of LSD and MKULTRA Experiments on Citizens
In 1950, the CIA initiated Project Bluebird, later renamed Project Artichoke, whose stated purpose was to develop “the means to control individuals through special interrogation techniques.” Researchers wanted to find ways to make human beings into pliable automatons, able to carry out stated tasks against the person’s own will. They knew that the only way to truly accomplish this would be to suppress a person’s will entirely.
The purpose of the project was outlined in a memo dated January 1952 that stated, “Can we get control of an individual to the point where he will do our bidding against his will and even against fundamental laws of nature, such as self preservation?”
Project Bluebird researchers experimented with a wide variety of psychoactive substances, including LSD, heroin, marijuana, cocaine, PCP, mescaline, and ether. Thousands of military personal were dosed and experimented upon, and it is believed that many civilians were also used.
While researching a book on pioneers in the field of hallucinogenic drug experimentation, biographer Don Lattin came upon the following 1956 video which shows a prim housewife undergoing an LSD experiment. The researcher, Dr Sidney Cohen, was dosing volunteers at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Los Angeles. Apparently it was part of a study on “mental health issues” and was filmed for a T.V. program.
Several hours after receiving her dose, the housewife says, “Everything is in color and I can feel the air. I can see it, I can see all the molecules – I’m part of it. Can’t you see it?”

In 1953, the CIA placed several of its interrogation and mind-control programs under the direction of a single program, known by the code name MKULTRA, after CIA director Allen Dulles complained about not having enough “human guinea pigs to try these extraordinary techniques.” The MKULTRA project was under the direct command of Dr. Sidney Gottlieb of the Technical Services Division. The project received over $25 million, and involved hundreds of experiments on human subjects at eighty different institutions.
Another fascinating bit of found footage is a documentary that shows an artist being subjected to LSD. The point of the experiment seems to be how the dosing affects the subject’s artwork. They seem to desire to induce a schizophrenic state in the man.
And finally, what follows is an ABC broadcast from 1979. It is a scathing expose of the CIA’s practices regarding experimentation on citizens.
The topics covered in the film include the CIA’s activities in MKULTRA, Project ARTICHOKE, Frank Olson, Dr. Ewen Cameron, LSD, the Church Committee (chaired by Senator Frank Church), mind control experiments, human behavior modification, personality portraits of world leaders, foreign police intelligence agencies (Uruguay, South Korea), double agents, remote control of animals, brain surgery, psychosurgery, creation of amnesia, parapsychology, manipulation of genes, psychic driving, electrodes implanted in the brain, electroshock therapy, U.S. army experiments, brainwashing, sleep therapy, de-patterning and the Allen Memorial Institute of Psychology of McGill University.
