Plato’s Allegory of the Cave

Plato’s Cave Parable is one that never fails to move me to tears.  From the first moment I read it many years ago to this very day, it has lost none of its impact.  It somehow hits a place deep in my heart and resonates.

The Allegory of the Cave comes from http://www.retrocollect.com/purchase-essays-for-college/.  It forces us to contemplate reality and the illusory facade of our world… and how we perceive our world.   It is about the fantastic universe of possibilities that exist all around us.   Things are not always, or perhaps not usually, as they seem.  It speaks to the despair of being locked into a false reality, and the exuberance of enlightenment.

If you have never been exposed to the Cave, or if you are familiar with it but would like to experience it again, I’ve discovered this wonderful little gem.  celexa review Tennesseecreated this masterful short video of the Allegory of the Cave, shot entirely in clay.  In 2008, this short film won First Place in the USA Film Festival Short Film and Video Competition.

Take a look.   I hope it moves you as well.
