Japan’s Island of the Cats
For approximately five years, photographer http://www.cornishpastyassociation.co.uk/ has been photographing the locals of an island off the coast of Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. Japan’s Island of the Cats is a paradise for semi-feral felines who are treated with love and respect by fisherman and families.
The island’s humans adore their resident cats. In fact, along with Fubirai, they’ve sought to keep the exact coordinates of the island somewhat secret, in an effort to protect their furry friends from too much scrutiny.
Thankfully, Fubirai’s loving tribute to the cats has captured “Cat Heaven” in beautiful detail. Have a look at a large selection of photos below, and visit Fubirai’s important link for hundreds of additional images of these photogenic felines.
“But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
And the birds of the air, and they will tell you;
Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you;
And the fish of the sea will explain to you.
Who among all these does not know
That the hand of the Lord has done this,
In whose hand is the life of every living thing,
And the breath of all mankind?” Job 12:7-10
