April 2010 was National Poetry Month. Well, those who know Natalina are well aware that she likes to be fashionably late… (read: procrastination).  However, as one who dabbles a bit in poetry and prose, I have a keen appreciation for a talented writer. Further, I am overjoyed when I come upon a writer with the level of talent that I am about to share with you all.

Recently I posted a picture taken in Norway in which a melting glacier exposed a very human looking face that appeared to be weeping vast rivers of tears into the sea. This post became very popular, and still gets hundreds of views every day. MOTHER NATURE CRIES A RIVER OF TEARS
As I was looking through my online photo album today, I came upon a picture that I’d forgotten about.

If this doesn’t melt your cold heart, nothing will.
In Norway, on the Austfonna ice cap, located on Nordaustlandet in the Svalbard archipelago, the ice is melting. Rising sea levels due to early ice melt are causing great concern to scientists around the globe.
Marine photographer and environmental lecturer Michael Nolan captured the stunning picture of the disappearing glacier, and the image that turned up is at once awe inspiring and heartbreaking.

I’ve decided that I’m going to take a leap and post some of my fiction here on the blog. Eventually, this is intended to be a novel, but I’ll be posting the story here as it develops. Likely once I am finished, I’ll come back and delete these posts, but for those of you faithful followers of Extraordinary Intelligence, consider this your sneak peak!
Now, I’m already several chapters into this adventure, but I won’t post them all at once. We’ll go piece by piece {more. . .)

That’s right.  It almost passed me by, but yesterday as I was perusing my blog, as I do because it is a darn good blog, I realized that my Chupacabra post was post #99.
I pondered the possibilities. One hundred posts is a nice little milestone. I had to think of something special.  But what topic is worthy of such a distinction? What topics haven’t I touched on? At first, I thought I would do something about MKULTRA, a major area of interest {more. . .)

In 1863, Jules Verne embarked on a writing career that would span 60 novels, and spawned countless classics.  What is most memorable about the works of Verne, is that he managed to foresee some of the modern marvels that we now take for granted. His prophetic works envisioned airplanes, glass skyscrapers, helicopters, trips to the moon, submarines, television, guided missiles, air conditioning, and motion pictures. Few other authors have been able to match his almost miraculous ability to see into the future, and imagine the {more. . .)

I’ve been having so much fun with my camera. I recently did a few posts on my personal blog about items around my home and things to see in my city. However, when I showed them to my brother, this was his reaction…
“You didn’t even show all of your cool stuff. The kind of stuff you have that makes me a little creeped out whenever I come over. I mean that in a good way.”
Well, I figured these things would be more appropriate {more. . .)

Evolution in action?
This is some fascinating news that sparks all kinds of questions. According to a new book, Thinkers Of The Jungle, by Gerd Schuster, Willie Smits and Jay Ullal, the below image shows an orangutan in the process of attempting to spear a fish. If this is in fact what the ape is doing, then it is a first. No other orangutan has ever been seen using a tool to hunt.

As long as I can remember, I have been drawn to cemeteries. I do not find them to be a morbid or sad place. Rather, I find them to be peaceful and meditative. Many of the old cemeteries are really quite beautiful, with their monuments and statues, crypts and shrines. Sometimes, I like to visit these graveyards and just be still and quiet.
What is it about the graves that scares people so? Is it the fear of death? The fear {more. . .)

“Paisley Swan Stewart’s writing voice is powerfully and masterfully done, and is informed in every sentence, every paragraph by her own private experiences. She has what it takes to be a NYC published author — and believe me, I do not say this lightly.

Toward the end of the Cold War, Reagan visited Moscow with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. His photographer, Pete Souza, snapped pictures during the visit, while Reagan made his way around Red Square. Below is one of the photos he took.
