I wouldn't say it changed my life but I can appreciate his foresight and imagination in context of reality today and the very near-future breakthroughs we're looking at.

In the text, Case has a propensity for select mind-altering substances. His organ transplants prevent certain drugs from affecting him but later he finds another substance that will do the trick.

Given that patches for drugs exist (nicotine, birth control, morphine, etc.), how much stock do you place in Gibson's prediction of inhibitive genetic drug treatment?

It's a scary thought but I've read at least one article mentioning the idea.

Thanks Bruno!

I have to read this novel again soon. I loved it so much. Oh, and guess what I found on IMDB. Yup, Neuromancer is in production. Director is Joseph Kahn, I'm not familiar with him.

Razorgirl Molly is who you're thinking of, I think! Awesome :)

I have ordered Altered Carbon on your recommendation. I'll let you know what I think.

Fantastic post Natalina!
This novel changed my view on SF. I had always loved it (my father has been a voracious reader of sf, and I think it was his copy of Neuromancer that I read), but with Gibson, it was taken to whole new visceral and frighteningly palpable levels. What was the name of the chick with the razor blades for fingernails, and the fused shades? And the Rastafarian space station!
Crazy to think it's never been made into a movie, yet all its core ideas have been plundered, most notably in The Matrix.
Then I read Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon a few years ago, and it did the same thing again for me, took SF to a whole new level. It owes a lot to the cinematic-style prose of Neuromancer, but adds in many new exhilarating concepts, especially "re-sleeving". I'd love for Martin Scorsese, or perhaps David Fincher to direct either novel.

Another incredible post from a remarkable young woman. I've been enjoying your writing since you were linked on Coast to Coast AM.

I believe that Mr. Gibson would be moved to see that 25 years on, a young lady would be able to speak with such a loving and laudatory tone about his masterpiece. I do hope he sees this.

Next up, a post dedicated to Jules Verne? Now that would be a treat. Consider it, will you?
