Girl Protected from Kidnappers by a Pride of Lions

The Associated Press is reporting a truly incredible story out of Ethiopia.  A twelve year old girl who was fleeing from men who had abducted and beaten her was found being guarded by three lions, who had attacked her captors and protected her from further harm.

The kidnappers had apparently taken the young girl prisoner in an attempt to force her into a marriage.  After the lions came to her rescue, they stood watch and kept her safe for half a day.  Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo, a local officer, told the AP, “They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest.”

Wondimu also stated that if it had not been for the interference of the lions, the fate of the young girl could have been much worse.  It is not uncommon for men to abduct and force marriage on girls, and methods used to convince them to submit often involve severe beatings and rape.

A local government official corroborated the story and called the event “some kind of miracle.”

I am only going to respond to the positive side of this story. Thank God for lions. There is so much that is being said in this story it borders on supernatural. Watch for signs and wonders comes to mind. With that kind of male behavior, we can only hope for a day when justice will prevail. Women and children have suffered so much abuse at the hands of man-unkind.
