‘Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’ Graphic Vampire Birth Scene

When I was recently visiting a friend, we decided to catch a matinee of the new Twilight movie. I’m not a fan of the series, but she loved the books so off we went.
The movie was as expected… Jacob ripping off his shirt within the first few minutes of the movie, Bella and Edward staring pensively at one another, ridiculously long music montages, teen angst and so on. What I wasn’t really expecting was the sex and gore.
I’ve seen the other films in the Twilight Saga, and while they weren’t my cup o’ tea, they were relatively benign. This film is different. The sexual tension between Bella and Edward is no longer hinted at, but rather it is realized on film. And mind you, I’m no prude, but I couldn’t help but notice the average age of the people in the theater (my friend and I were significantly older than the average) and think to myself… do they really need to SEE this?
As the movie pressed on, we find Bella is pregnant with a little vampire baby. A vampire baby that thirsts for blood. In order to keep her baby sated, Bella must drink blood although she herself is not a vampire yet. Watching her sip blood through a straw was gross, but nothing compared to what was coming up.
As one can imagine, giving birth to a human/vampire hybrid is no picnic. Complications ensue and we are lead into the now infamous “Vampire Birth Scene”. Let me tell you… it’s pretty graphic. I’ve seen my share of horror films, but this scene was particularly disturbing. Blood everywhere… flashing images on the screen… screaming… splatter… it was awful.
Whether it was due to the flashing of lights and colors on the screen, or the overwhelming nature of the scene itself, it is being reported that some people have been experiencing seizures while watching the vampire birth. A Utah man told ABC News 4 that he blacked out, fell out of his seat and began convulsing on the floor during the scene. His wife later told him that he was “shaking and mumbling different noises.”
Now, reports are coming in that this is not an isolated incident. Others are coming forward claiming that they either experienced something similar, or witnessed such convulsions while watching Breaking Dawn.
Breaking Dawn distributor Summit Entertainment LLC has yet to publicly comment on the incidents.

Have you gone all soft on us Nat?!
I thought you were more hardcore. What the hell you doing watching this crap?!
Surely it can’t be that graphic …? Was it rated PG-13? Or have they slapped it with an R …??
Have you seen a movie called Grace? Check it out!
I’ve not seen any of the Twilight movies, and I never will, not in a thousand years (to obscurely reference Bowie’s Cat People) …
Hey, try The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) on for faint-hearted size! Heh, heh!
Haha Bryn… I wondered if you’d comment on this one.
My beef is less with the content compared to other films… but more because of the age demographic that this film is pointed to. It just isn’t appropriate for those to whom it is marketed.
I believe it is still PG-13, although I think it could easily have had an R rating. I suppose the lack of nudity and swearing saved it.
And I think I’ll be skipping the Human Centipede 2 after sitting through the first one. It just was a little too…. icky for me! I know, maybe I am getting soft!
Have you seen the send-up on Attack of the Show on G4 the other day?

[I love how the word "Spoiler" comes at its end...]
Haha! Geoffrey that is hysterical. The “Vampire Gynecologist” made me crack up!
Thank you Geoffrey, I am laughing hard, great way to start the day.
If I were being cynical I might also suggest that the books and films have always had a Right Wing Christian anti sex, anti female sexuality (anti female) agenda which means attempting to put the fear of god, sex and their own bodies into girls in early puberty is entirely their mission.
Except that that is apparently leading to a massive increase in anal sex amongst teens, the form of intercourse with the highest risk of serious disease transmission. I guess goreporn is ok if it’s serving an authoritarian agenda and it’s better that kids be left vulnerable to bad sex and disease than potentially grow up with a strong positive view of their own bodies and their own sexuality.
LOL whoops, sorry, climbing down off of the soapbox now….
