I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
My friend William Toler, reporter for the Independent Register, shared this story with me yesterday. It is a bizarre item that comes from his neck of the woods in North Carolina.
Many people claim to see apparitions and manifestations of Jesus Christ or his Mother Mary in mundane places. From watermarks under bridges to burn marks on a three cheese pizza, the Lord seems to make his presence known in very peculiar ways. Rarely is the image so striking that is causes even the most ardent non-believer to pause in wonder.
One exception is a wild vine growing on a telephone pole in Kinston, N.C. The vine (identified by the Associated Press as a kudzu plant, but more likely a Virgina Creeper, according to William’s research) bears an uncanny resemblance to the commonly depicted vision of Christ on the Cross. Locals are buzzing about this mysterious plant.
Katie Jeffries of ABC News Channel 12 reports that Ma’s Hot Dog House owner Kent Hardison first noticed the anomaly a couple of weeks ago. “I saw it about two weeks ago and I thought, that looks like Jesus hanging up there, but I didn’t think anyone else would see what I saw,” he says. Once he realized the vine bore Christ’s likeness, he quickly put away his Round-Up weed killer.
For now, the divine vine will be left intact, although there are some concerns about whether it could cause damage to the power lines.
