Girly Pink Ouija Board Causes Controversy

Hasbro games, the makers of the infamous Ouija Board “board game”, have introduced a new version of the classic conjuring “toy”, targeted directly at young girls.
Now, while some may consider this to be a harmless sleepover game, others find the trend in “normalizing” the Ouija Board quite disturbing. And there has been quite an uproar regarding this latest addition to the Ouija line. Many people feel that the board is a dangerous tool, and if used casually, can open gates or portals that would allow all kinds of nasty nasties into one’s life.
Toy expert and consultant Chris Byrne recently said of the pink Ouija, “… if something doesn’t fit your value or belief system, you don’t have to buy it….I think people are projecting their belief system on it.”
Amazon.com currently sells the pink Ouija for $39.95. Perusing the reviews shows the many people who are disturbed by the board. The following are some quotes by commenters on Amazon.
1. SHAME ON HASBRO….TOTALLY DISGUSTED!! Oh its so pretty in PINK…..NOT !!!!! To those of you who think this is just all in fun, just a game you should think again. Anything that encourages one to seek out the dead just opens a gateway if you will to all kinds of trouble and demonic forces.
2. Pink Doesn’t Make it Less Dangerous I don’t own the pink version but I have owned and “played” Ouija Boards and know the background (and I own a Ouija Board now for my public speaking purposes but of course do not use it)…..There is inherent in using the board the possibility of demonic contact and influence, since dead people cannot be contacted. No one should use this Board, especially younger people. I am appalled that this is being marketed to tween girls! Please withdraw it from the market!
3. Hasbro should be ashamed I can’t believe that Hasbro has come out with this product – utilizing a pink colored box to market this as a “cute” game for young girls. No parent should ever buy this for their child as it is not appropriate for their age level. Materials dealing with the occult should not be marketed as “toys” as they are clearly NOT toys and nothing that children should ever be allowed to play around with.
The next one I love just because of the title of the review.
4. Buy this if you really hate your child Guns don’t kill people, people kill people, right? Why doesn’t Amazon.com sell automatic weapons or child porn? Because it is understood that these are very dangerous. Whether you believe in the astral realm or whether you believe in the power of the subconscious or neither, a little humility would suggest that there are things which you don’t understand and therefore it is a good thing to learn from the experiences of others and the wisdom of the ages, especially when it has to do with the well-being of a child.
And of course, there were more. What do you think? What is the significance of an Ouija Board, or is there significance? Harmless game, parlor trick, or dangerous divining tool? I’m opening this one up for your thoughts in the comment section.

I can see a lot of dead ex-boyfriends being hassled … And perhaps a Hollywood movie featuring lots of nubiles and dead ex-boyfriends.
I’ve never used one. Don’t intend to. I have enough weird shit happening without inviting it!
However, this new marketing ploy does seem a bit…I can’t think of a word. It’s traditionally been used by tween girls anyway. Their sales must have been dropping.
BTW-if you get any hits from Facebook…it could have been me. Gave ya some link love.
not sure how i feel about it. kids have been playing with this kind of thing for ages. not all have had bad experiences, i’m sure. and in many cultures it’s considered acceptable to call on the spirits for advice and wisdom and help. in some religions, such as voodoo, it’s acceptable to allow the spirits to take possession of you as you dance your self into a trance. many tribal peoples do this sort of thing.
i guess the one difference is that usually there’s some kind of preparation for this sort of thing so that, i suppose, the wrong spirits, or even the good ones, don’t take advantage. and probably one has to be at least a young adult before doing this.
i dunno. i messed with a ouija board a couple times, and nothing happened. but i don’t think i would do it again. and i’m not so sure i would let my kid mess with one, if i had a child.
I don’t know. I have tried ouija boards before, and got some wierd, spooky answers. I was very creeped out by it and didn’t do it any more after a couple times.
I don’t think they really need to girl it up in order for it to appeal to a youngster, in fact, I would think that leaving it as is should work just fine.
This rings of Hasbro attempting to appeal to a much younger set than normal with this game. And so my question would be “Why?”
It makes me nervous.
I had a ouija board when I was a kid. My brothers and I had a lot of fun with it.
Its just a toy.
I love the pink one. I might buy one!
Hello I have a profile at Facebook.com under Ouija Board. This page is dedicated to any and all things Ouija Board related.
Personally I love the new edition to the product of Ouija Board Pink. Ouija Board fights against breast cancer and Ouija Board loves children too. Ouija Board has always been marketed to those who like a “spooky” Halloween game or great for young kids at a slumber party!
I see nothing inappropriate about this Ouija Board at all. How young can a girl be to even make something like this work for them? Hasbro could put teddy bears on the front and advertise this for infants… do you really think that is believable? Believable in a way that they are trying to hurt your little girls? NO.
I will add this Pink Ouija Board to my “wish list” and dream about the “Baby-Blue” one they could make for young boys… Or black or… Anything goes in the wonderfully interesting and fascinating world of Ouija Boards. Remember to stay positive in all your thoughts about Ouija and nothing but positive shall shine through!
Ouija Board is fun and safe for all ages! Ouija Board loves you…:)
Sincerely,
The Ouija Board
