Update** As I was re-reading this post, I thought it ended rather abruptly. I realized that there was an entire chunk that did not get pasted into this post, so it has now been added at the bottom.
There is no other topic that I receive more requests about. My readers really want to know more about the sexual side of the Occult. Well, I’m feeling frisky today, so I decided to take it on. Before you continue reading, please be aware that this post contains some mature subject matter, so if you are particularly sensitive, you may want to skip this post and read something a little tamer.  Here’s a suggestion: Angel Kitty.
Sex has always had an important role in the realm of spirituality. From the early pagans who copulated in their fields to secure a fruitful harvest, to the Tantric practices of the Vedic tradition, sexuality and spirituality are securely entwined.
So where shall I begin? To explore this topic in full detail, I suppose I would need several posts, if not a blog site unto itself. I’m just going to touch on a few points of interest, and whatever I leave out, we can explore in a future post, deal? Deal!
Magic
Sex magic comes in many forms.  Dr. Evelyn Paglini, frequent guest on Coast to Coast Am with George Noory, and owner of the website MysticalBlend.com, spoke about the sexual aspects of magic on one of her radio appearances. She says that there are spells one can use to draw or bind someone to them. One such ritual involves using a photo, nail clippings, hair, or article of clothing from the intended target, and combine it with a red wax candle. The ritual calls in the element of fire. In the same show, she claims that demonic or ghostly sexual encounters are on the rise, and that while they are at first pleasant or comforting, they can sap the victim of their energy over time.
Generally speaking, sexual intercourse is used in rituals in order to tap into the energy created during arousal. It is thought that this energy can help to heighten the chance of manifesting a magical or spiritual response. Those who practice certain kinds of Witchcraft may participate in what is referred to as the Great Rite, during which the High Priestess and High Priest symbolically or literally have sex in order to emulate the union of the Maiden Goddess and the Lover God.
Aleister Crowley
Aleister Crowley and Sex Magick go hand in hand. Mr. Crowley was always pushing the buttons of polite society, and he was a major advocate for the magical powers of sexuality. Especially through his involvement with the Ordo Templi Orientis, Crowley became the supreme figure in sex ritual. He wrote extensively on the topic. When Crowley became the leader of the O.T.O, he implemented the various degrees of sex magick:
- VIII°: masturbatory or autosexual magical techniques were taught, referred as the Lesser Work of Sol
- IX°: heterosexual magical techniques were taught
- XI°: anal intercourse techniques as sexual and magical were taught
A detailed explanation as well as a set of Basic Sex Magick techniques can be found at Spiritual.com.au:Â Basic Techniques of Sex Magick
Tantric Sex
“I have visited in my wanderings shrines and other places of pilgrimage. But I have not seen another shrine blissful like my own body.” Saraha, Buddhist Texts
Tantra was born in India some 6,000 years ago. Originally intended as a rebellion against religion, Tantric sex is used as a tool for enlightenment through physical connection. Tantra literally means “to manifest, to expand, to show and to weave”. The tantric emergence in the West has become less about enlightenment, and more as a means to prolong the act of sexual intercourse and to utilize orgasmic energy more effectively.
Tantric Buddha
Very little of the ancient practice of Tantra exists today . For example, Tantric rituals used to be very elaborate, and rarely private. One such ritual was the chakrapuja, which could take place with between 8 to 48 men and women. Together, they’d partake in some cannabis, after which the priest would have sex with a young woman. The rest of the party would then feast and drink (I won’t get into some of the things that they’d feast upon….use your imagination), recite mantras, and then partake in a giant orgy. The purpose was not to achieve sexual gratification, but to eliminate the sensation of self, and heighten oneness and unity.
Kundalini
Kundalini is a Sanskrit word, literally meaning “coiled”. Hence, it is often described as a “sleeping serpent”. It is believed to be an unconscious sexual force that lies dormant inside the human being at the base of the spine. Also known as Shakti, this force is related to the Chakras, or unseen points within the body that, when triggered or awakened, can unite the consciousness with a higher power, and enter the participant into a state of complete bliss.
Originally belonging to Tantra and Yoga, the concept of Kundalini was later adopted by Western philosophies. Sir John Woodroffe, also known as Arthur Avalon, was said to be the first to bring Kundalini to the west. He coined the term “Serpent Power”, and wrote a book by that title.
Later, the Theosophical Society became interested in Kundalini, and reinforced its popularity in esoteric circles. Even Carl Jung promoted Yoga and Kundalini Awakening as a means to understand the process of individualism. A variety of “yogis” emerged throughout the West, spreading their own take on Serpent Awakening, and Kundalini practices can now be seen as essential aspects of many New Age philosophies.

Sexual Alchemy
“No one can attain integrity, no one can be deeply Self-realized, without sexual energy. Sex is the power of the Soul.” -- Esoteric Course of Alchemical Kabbalah
Sexual Alchemy means different things depending upon who you’re talking to. There is Taoist Sex Alchemy (relating more closely to Tantra), there is figurative sexual alchemy (relating more to the sexual chemistry of dating and courtship), but for the purposes of this post, and for no other reason than I find it the most interesting, we’re going to explore esoteric Sexual Alchemy.
Practitioners of Gnostic and Kabbalistic philosophies tend to focus on this type of sexual theory. It goes something like this. Alchemy as a “science” has been practiced for many moons. The idea that one can change the actual physical properties of an object or element by combining it with another element. However, the ultimate goal of Alchemy is to obtain special wisdom, and even immortality. By using common metals and attempting to change their physical properties, alchemists worked toward the desired discovery of the “Philosopher’s Stone”. This was said to be a legendary substance that was believed to be a remedy that supposedly would cure all diseases and prolong life indefinitely
Sexual Alchemy uses the same principles that alchemists of the Middle Ages and beyond employed in their works. The difference being that sex is used as the combining of chemicals, both physical and spiritual, and that the “Philosopher’s Stone” is more of a metaphysical state of being or consciousness that can be achieved through a disciplined approach to sexual intercourse. It is believed in some esoteric circles that the metals and minerals used by alchemists of ancient times were actually metaphors for substances found within our own bodies and psyches.
The best description for Gnostic Sexual Alchemy is as follows from Gnosticteachings.org:
Â
Figuarum Aegyptiorum Secretarum, 18th century.
The Holy Grail, symbol of the feminine sexual organs, contains the waters of life (sexual energy). Standing upon this water are the man and the woman, who use their staves (the Kundalini) to control the waters. The waters must be kept smooth and calm and absolutely pure, free from any defect or disturbance, for not a drop must be spilled.
From the tranquil and crystalline waters rises a column of stone, a symbol of the spinal column. The waters are the Foundation, which is Hebrew is Yesod, the Ninth Sephirah of the Kabbalah, and related directly to the sexual organs.
Upon the column are entwined the two serpents of the Caduceus, Ida and Pingala, known in Christianity as Adam and Eve.
Atop the column, supported by the work of the man and woman below, is the Innermost Spirit, our own Inner Divine Father and Mother, the Being. Unto the Innermost is given all glory and power, thus as the man and woman work to perfect themselves, the Innermost is given Initiations, powers, titles, grades, etc. This is why the Innermost is crowned and carries the Magic Wand and the Caduceus.
Surrounding all of this are Elohim who rule over the planets, whose force and influence direct and guide the couple in their Alchemical Work. All of the Gods carry within the force of the Cosmic Christ, whose symbol is the Sun; that is why all the wands, staves and sexual organs are covered by the Sun.
Astral Sex/Out of Body Sex/4th and 5th Dimensional Sex
What an interesting and compelling idea. The concept that one can leave their body, travel through time and space, meet up with another disembodied soul, and have a mind blowing sexual experience, without ever physically leaving your home. Uh, yes please!
There are many way that Out of Body experiences are described. Basically, some believe that it is possible to will the soul or consciousness to exit the physical, and enter into what is known as the Astral Plane. Most describe this plane as another level of existence, or dimension, that every human being taps into, or visits, sometimes without knowing.
Another way to describe an Astral Plane visitation is Lucid Dreaming. This is when a person is in a dream state and yet is completely aware that they are dreaming, and able to guide the dream and consciously manipulate the events of the dream. Practitioners of Astral Projection will often say that a Lucid Dream is nothing less than awareness of being in this other dimension.
So, is it possible that two people can meet on this plane, and engage in a sexual experience? Some say yes, it is very possible, and that the sexual experience puts physical sexual activity to shame. People who engage in this type of activity consider it to be a higher level of awareness, and therefore explain that the soul is only reacting to what is most desired. This eliminates the projecting soul from feeling guilt about the situation. At times, our souls will travel to be with Astral lovers without us even trying.  Writer Jaadha Jiddah explains it like this:
…on the astral plane our spirits are not confined by our egos and our selfish desires etc. They can be aware of them but they remain unfettered. As such our spirit can ‘leak’. It can do things that there is an inner, deep desire to do but that the processes of consciousness have prevented us from enacting. For various reasons us humans often do not follow our innermost desires and passions.
Of course, not every astral encounter is surrounded by this type of romance. There is also a process affectionately known as astral slutting…which is exactly what it sounds like. But there is reason to be cautious. Apparently, there are non human beings that inhabit the astral plane, so it is advised to practice and become familiar with Astral Projection prior to looking for a random astral lover.
I know this all sounds wacky. I’m having a difficult time understanding it myself. But, those who believe and claim to partake in these encounters speak of it as though it is simply a fact of science. Perhaps it is best to allow some of them to do the talking.
Or, you could just take Jaadha Jiddah’s advice……just lie back and enjoy the deep soul connection that meeting your astral lover/s can bring you. You’ll wake up feeling pretty good.
Sex with Spirits
I won’t spend a lot of time on this topic, as I’ve discussed it before: Paranormal seduction: Lurid encounters with spirits
But, it does belong here in this post. And since I am fascinated by this topic (which probably makes me more than a little pervy) I’ve continued to research, and found that not all who claim to have had sexual encounters with ghosts consider it to be a bad thing.
Click the above image to read an article by paranormal researcher Nick Redfern. Fair warning, the site displaying the article is pretty adult oriented. The article features and interview with LEMUR founder Joshua Warren who offers advice on how to encourage a paranormal sex encounter. Warren says if you want to have sex with a ghost, you should tell them, ‘I’m open to having an intimate encounter tonight. I’ll be naked here tonight, so if you want it, come and get it.’
Gina Lanier is a paranormal researcher, who has been investigating what she calls, Spectrophilia. She believes that when a person passes away, they do not lose their attachment to the things that they enjoyed while alive. While this is a frightening thought when one considers the weirdos out there, it serves as comfort to some who have lost loved ones, and claim to enjoy “encounters” with them from beyond the grave.
Stephanie Riseley author of Love from Both Sides, in which she discusses paranormal relationships. Listen to her discuss her experience here. This is so entertaining!:
For a great overview of much of what was discussed in this post, particularly with regard to Astral Sex and Spirit Sex, listen to this episode of “Occult Talk” which discusses the metaphysical aspects of sex. I HIGHLY recommend listening to this podcast, as it is completely fascinating information from a well versed Occultist.
Occult Talk -Â Astral love with spirits and sex magick
This has been our little journey into the world of sex, spirituality, and the occult. It is by no means comprehensive, but I think it’s a nice overview of the various ways that magic, religion, and mysticism embrace sexuality as being a vital part of their schools of thought. At the bottom of this post, I’ve included a few links you may wish to take a peek at, for more information on the items discussed here.
